About us

Bastian & OskarOur family consists of Iza and Mirek (Arkadiusz), and four medium schnauzers: 2 boys - Bastian and Frodo, and 2 girls Aisza and Buba. We live in a small town in Pomeranian (Pomorskie) province, approximately 35 km from Gdansk. Our dogs have 1200 square meters at their disposal including the entire house (with maybe the exception of the kitchen at dinner time). Other than dogs, Mirek loves motorcycles, and those stupid computer games, and my passion is photography and computer graphics. But I’m not going to write about us, after all, this site is about our pupils J . I will only add that we never regret the decision of buying the dogs, even though the beginnings were hard. They are incredible and bring a lot of happiness. If you are interested to know how it all started I invite you to read on, but I have to warn you, that I stretched it a bit, and that the beginning is sad.

Artax our angelOur true big love for schnauzers began from a seven-week old, chubby puppy that came to live with us in August of 2003 and changed our lives forever. As it usually is with most people that are dog lovers, we always had dogs in our home, but not one of them possessed our hearts as this chubby schnauzer. Artax was born on the International Children Day, and although he did not have the certification, he had a white tie on his torso and a crocked tooth. But to us he was perfect. He was the sweetest dog you could imagine. He awarded me and my husband an unconditional love, love I have never received from another dog before. Iza, Artax and Oskar (brother Artax)Unfortunately, on December 30th, 2003, when he was only seven months old, his innocent, grateful, friendly heart stopped beating. We experienced tremendous amount of pain, something that only people who lost a similar battle can understand. We knew that the spark in his eyes that was worth all the treasures of this world will never shine again. Eventually the day has to come, when your friend looks into your eyes for the last time, and your love, no matter how strong, can not change it. That is when we decided to buy a new schnauzer, to remind us of our beloved Artax. Within two days we made a lot of phone calls to many different breeders al over Poland. We had a lot of luck, there were only three new breeds in all of Poland. We had to choose among Warszawa, Krakow or Szczecin. We chose the last one.

Bastian (Aga-Ton Retman) was born on November 11th , 2003 and came to our home at three am on January 1st, 2004, having spent the last few hours in a car and the New Years at a gas station refilling the car. All the way home he did not sleep, but he did not cry once.
He became our medicine for the pain and agony we experience after loosing Artax. He is more crazy and wild and has confidence when it comes to strangers. But he loves to sit on you lap, hug and look out the window. He enjoys long walks and digging holes – just like a normal dog. Bastian is
Bastian and we - Iza & Milena :-) growing to be a beautiful, smart dog.. He is very energetic, it’s difficult to keep him in one place for even few seconds (unless he sleeps), and he is always all over the place . It’s because of him, we have smiles on our faces again. I love him how he stares at me when my attention is directed at “someone” else, as if he was saying “I’ll wait, because I know you will hug me in a minute”. I love him for truthfulness, for the way he treats his girls and for the noises he makes when he goes to sleep.

AiszaAisza was born on October 14th, 2003, and was almost four months when she came to us. We never even imagined that we would have another dog, but I guess it was meant to be different. Right after Artax died I sent an ad to almost every available source, that I’m looking for a medium schnauzer, and almost a month later I received an email with a picture of five puppies. I looked at them and knew that one of them (the one sitting in the middle) was the one that we were missing. He was so much like our Artax when he was little, that we couldn’t think of anything else but when we would go and get him. We went, not knowing anything, and when we got there it turned out that the puppy we chose was actually a girl. She was gorgeous and we took her. On February 7th, after 1200 km drive, Bastian had a little sister and we had hearts full of happiness. Why do I love her? For her individualism, that she is faithful to us and us only, and that she does not express her love anytime, but when she does, it’s full of truthfulness and it’s the biggest gift to us. Aisza is a lovely female, who always apologizes for everyone else, and when she does, it’s in a way I can not describe.

Then we adopted Matyldzia, black and white cocker spaniel. Unfortunately, we could not keep her. The schnauzers were fighting with her constantly and even though we tried to make peace, it was a war we could not win. We had to find her a new home. Does it hurt? Off course…but we know that she is loved and nothing bad will ever happen to her again.

It’s been almost a year since Artax died, but the wounds would not heal.  The memory of Artax’s love and the need of that glare that he offered us compelled us to bring home another dog.  Buba is the only dog in our home that we spent the time to look for and research, and that time since she was born to the moment when we could go get her seemed like eternity.  We were looking for the ideal partner for our Bastian, but it was difficult to find a female schnauzer that did not have Baska, Lars or the rest of his crowned family that was already in the certificate of Bastian.  We were looking for “different blood”.  And so, on August  28, 2004, our Buba was born in Czech Republic.

On October 18th, which happened to be Mirek’ birthday, we drove across Poland to Czech Republic to take our new puppy home.

We had an uneasy task of introducing her to the dog members of our family, but Buba surprised us.  Instead of being scared of the “gang” she took a war like position and started barking at the rest.  All of them welcomed her without any problems.

On June 24th, 2007 to our kennel was imported excellent pup male from Russia - "Dronas'' kennel - Frodo (Dronas Jules Verne). He is very promising young boy with excellent pedigree. Frodo has wonderful, joyful character - is very busy all time and never boring - little crazy boy :-)

And that’s about it.  Now we all live in our three bedroom home with and the huge back yard.  Myself, Iza, my husband, Mirek (Arek), Bastian, Aisza, Buba and Frodo .... and of course Artax who is protecting us and will not let anything bad happen to us.

On May 17th, 2005 in Gdansk’s division of the Kennel Association in Poland, no.2407/A our breed was registered under the name of “Artax's Angels FCI”.
